Skip a Lunch, Give a Lunch

The Rotary Club of Cupertino isn’t holding its Wednesday lunches these days, but club members are helping others stay fed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through its “Skip a Lunch, Give a Lunch” program, club members are donating the $20 they’d usually spend on the weekly lunch to Eisenhauer’s Catering, which usually serves them their midday meal on Wednesdays. The caterers, in turn, are donating meals to those in need.

The service project is in partnership with the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce’s “Cupertino Together” program.

“We implemented the program back in April,” said Rotarian Orrin Mahoney, “and so far we have donated 300 lunches.”

The club’s Wednesday lunches, meanwhile, are not going to waste. To keep Eisenhauer Catering in business during the lockdown, Rotarians established a drive-through meal pickup and are delivering lunches to members who cannot pick them up. Club members are also ordering lunch from the catering company for their Zoom meetings.

“Our partnership with Cupertino Rotary has been special and we appreciate the business, especially now during the pandemic,” said Dustin Eisenhauer, owner of Eisenhauer’s Catering.
