The end of the holiday season around downtown San Jose means Christmas at the park displays around Plaza de César Chávez coming down and the ice rink on South Market Street being stored until next winter. Today is the last day of the season Kristi Yamaguchi Downtown Ice will be open which some kids took advantage of.
For about an hour Sunday the rink was open to kids and their parents during the Tots on Ice event organized by the San Jose Downtown Association. Kids five and under were able to skate with their trusted adult for $10. The kids had the rink all to themselves from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. where they skated, slipped and some even hanged on their parents arms like a Beanie Baby.
After the kids had their skate the rink opened to the general public at 11 a.m. as usual.
For those hoping to squeeze in one last skate in downtown, the rink will be open until 9 p.m. today and won’t return until next winter.
