Santa Clara County’s Public Health Department said that 51 people in the county have now died of coronavirus after reporting one new fatality from the disease Saturday.
According to the latest data published by the county’s Public Health Department, 82 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported since Friday, for a total of 1,566 cases across the county. As of Saturday, 418 new cases of coronavirus in Santa Clara County had been reported over the past week.
The Public Health Department reported a slight uptick in the number of patients hospitalized with coronavirus Saturday, with 194 patients in county hospitals being treated for the disease. On Friday, 185 patients were being hospitalized across Santa Clara County for coronavirus.
Among cities and towns in Santa Clara County, San Jose continued to have the lion’s share of coronavirus cases, with 1,021, up from 986 on Friday. Sunnyvale had 85 cases, compared to 73 on Friday, while Santa Clara’s total climbed to 66 from 57, and Palo Alto edged up to 59 cases from 57 a day earlier. Milpitas reported three new cases, to reach 47, and Mountain View reported 32 cases, one more than on Friday.
The Public Health Department said that as of Saturday, 14,589 patients had been tested for COVID-19 across Santa Clara County, with a test positivity rate of 10.7%.
There was a hint of good news about the region’s coronavirus situation, as the number of patients in intensive care units across the five-county Bay Area stood at 179 on Saturday, down from a high point of 199 ICU patients on Wednesday.
