Economic recovery council
The Silicon Valley Economic Recovery and Resilience Council, started by Mayor Sam Liccardo in early April, aims to guide leaders in the South Bay on how to move forward economically during and after the Coronavirus pandemic. Evergreen Community College District Chancellor Byron D. Clift Breland was recently tapped to join the council, which includes the presidents of Stanford University, Santa Clara University and San Jose State University, among other local business leaders.
Tree bucks
Our City Forest, a San Jose nonprofit focused on cultivating trees throughout the city, has launched a new fundraising effort amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization’s leaders are asking for San Jose residents to make small, recurring monthly donations, which they’ve dubbed “tree bucks.” The donations would go to support the nonprofit’s staff and equipment, as well as planning for the future of its educational programs. To donate, visit ourcityforest.org/treebucks.
Virtual recreation
The city’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department has created a “virtual recreation center” for online activities including live workout classes, pre-recorded educational games and entertainment. Visit the center online at bit.ly/sjvirtualrec.
