Hakone reopens
Hakone Estate and Gardens reopened to the public on May 4.
“We will follow the guidelines for the county by maintaining the social-distancing protocols,” Hakone Foundation Chair Ann Waltonsmith wrote in an email.
Hakone is open weekdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and weekends 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
“To especially thank our membership folks for their support during the quarantine shutdown period, they are being invited to come an hour early on weekends (to) enjoy the morning beauty of Hakone before it is open to the public,” Waltonsmith wrote.
Visitors are invited to fold paper cranes to hang on Hakone’s entrance bamboo.
“It is a tradition to hang 1,000 or more origami cranes to represent hope and strength as we all persevere through this pandemic,” Waltonsmith wrote.
Leos tutor
The Saratoga High School Leos, a student offshoot of the Lions Club, are offering free online tutoring for elementary and middle school students. Leos are also hosting virtual story times for preschoolers through first-graders.
Leo Tutors ’n’ Care is meant to engage kids ages 4-12 and “help relieve some of the stress that their parents are feeling with working at home” while the “shelter in place” order is in effect.
The group is accepting donations for its services to help feed orunderprivileged individuals during the pandemic.

Virtual pet parade
The Santa Clara County Library District is hosting a virtual pet parade May 23 for patrons to show off their extended family members and check out other people’s.
