Census help
Residents interested in working for the 2020 Census can receive help with their online applications Jan. 26, 1-5 p.m., at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library, 150 E. San Fernando St. The workshops are sponsored by the City of San Jose’s libraries and work2future program, in collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau. For more information, call 408-794-1178.
Money for trees
Our City Forest, a local environmental nonprofit, was chosen by residents to receive $2,360.19 as part of Target’s Circle Giving Program. The money will go toward OCF’s community engagement efforts and its programs to foster green spaces throughout the city.
WIREd workshop
WIRE for Women, a nonprofit and nonpartisan group that aims to increase the number of women running for office in the South Bay, is holding its first campaign workshop of this election year Saturday, Feb. 1, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m at The Vibe Teen Center, 670 Shell Blvd., Foster City.
The workshop will cover fundraising, messaging and other aspects of campaign strategy. Women can register, whether they’ve decided to run or work on a campaign or not, at wireforwomen.com.
Neighborhood Notes
ALMADEN VALLEY>> A Jan. 25 Dumpster Day, hosted by District 10 Councilmember Johnny Khamis, will give Almaden Valley residents the chance to dispose of their harder-to-part-with household items—from mattresses and carpets to small appliances and lawn mowers. From 8 a.m. to noon, residents can line up along Avenida Almendros, and volunteers will help unload the waste into dumpsters at Del Roble Elementary School. Goodwill will be onsite as well, so residents can bring items to donate. No hazardous waste will be accepted.
